Kelly Stafford Reveals How She and NFL Star Matthew Keep Football From Taking Over Their Family Home

Kelly Stafford has offered a glimpse of her family life with Matthew Stafford, revealing that despite her husband being one of the Los Angeles Rams' biggest stars, football doesn't take center stage when he's at home.

While discussing her partnership with Wayfair, Kelly, 37, opened up about how she and Matthew, 38, have created a comfortable space where their four daughters can spend quality time with their dad when he's away from the field.

“Our life has a lot of football in it. I wouldn’t say it revolves around it. Our life revolves around our children.

"To be honest, everyone sees Matthew as this professional quarterback. But my kids see him as Dad—and when he’s sitting on the couch, they just want to be cuddled up next to him,” she told People.

The mom of four explained that when Matthew returns home from work, the family typically gathers together in their living space while the girls finish their homework and spend time with their father.

“So right now, yes, he goes to work, he comes home, and you’ll find us right where I just told you. The girls finish their homework on their little desks that are from Wayfair, and then they come, and they sit on the couch, and they perform and they talk to him, the most special time,” she said.

Kelly and Matthew met while attending the University of Georgia and tied the knot in 2015. They share four daughters: 9-year-old twins Sawyer and Chandler, Hunter, 8, and Tyler, 6.

Despite football playing an enormous role in their lives, Kelly said their home serves as a retreat from the demands of the NFL season.

“We love football, we love going to games, but home is always special, and you want to make it as comfortable as you can,” she shared. “But honestly, a typical day is that. It starts with work and then it ends with family time, and that’s every night. So we’re lucky in that sense.”

That emphasis on comfort has also shaped how the couple approach their interiors, with Kelly explaining that their furniture needs to evolve alongside their family's changing needs.

“We are consistently changing and evolving in our house, and our furniture has to do the same,” she said.

“Wayfair Delivers isn’t just about the furniture showing up ... but it’s also the stuff that I know that I can count on.”

Their home isn't reserved solely for quiet family nights. Kelly revealed that the Staffords frequently open their doors to loved ones throughout football season, particularly because much of their extended family lives far away.

“We do host a lot during the football season,” she said. “We want them to feel like this is their second home because a lot of it is our extended family, and being far away from them is tough.”

Her glimpse of the family's home life comes after Kelly and Matthew scored a major real estate touchdown, selling three expansive properties in the exclusive Los Angeles enclave of Hidden Hills within a matter of hours—for a combined $21.3 million.

The first two properties in Matthew's stacked sale were part of an expansive compound that the 2025 NFL MVP and Kelly purchased from rapper Drake for a total of $11 million in 2022. The third is a sprawling red-brick mansion that the duo picked up for $10.5 million that same year.

The couple spent close to two years trying to offload the properties from Drake's so-called YOLO (you only live once) estate, putting both dwellings on the market for the first time in fall 2024.

In September of that year, the smaller of the two homes, which spans nearly 2,500 square feet and sits on just over 2 acres, was listed for $6.8 million—$800,000 more than what the Staffords paid for it. One month later, the other property, which the couple had purchased for $5 million, was also put on the market with an asking price of $5.7 million.

After many months, and multiple price changes, records show that the two abodes were both sold on June 3 to the same buyer, through an LLC, for a total of $11.6 million. The Staffords netted a profit of just $600,000 on the sale.

However, on the sale of their third abode, which was closed on June 4, the couple took a nearly $1 million loss. They sold it for $9.7 million to a separate LLC, having bought it four years ago for $10.5 million.

The sprawling abode does not appear to have been listed on the MLS, suggesting that the couple sold it in an off-market transaction.

The enormous 7,500-square-foot abode on a 1.5-acre lot was described in a previous listing as a "stunning Hidden Hills manor" with a private vineyard, "colorful gardens," and a pool and spa.

Offering eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, the dwelling also boasts an "array of spacious sunlit public living rooms," the listing stated.

When the Staffords closed on the home in March 2022, it was reported that they were planning to use the enormous property as their primary residence. However, just over one year later, they upped their real estate game when they splashed out $28.2 million on an adjacent spec mansion that was being built on a piece of land previously owned by Jennifer Lopez.

The pop star lived in an enormous mansion on the parcel for seven years until 2017, when she sold it—at which point the home was demolished and the land was separated into two plots, one of which was earmarked for the Staffords' new home.

When the Staffords purchased the extraordinary mansion, it was still being built, and their decision to offload the adjacent property suggests that their new dwelling may finally have been finished.

It was initially thought that the couple were planning to turn both abodes into a giant compound that would span approximately 3 acres and feature two pools, as well as the separate structures.

However, it seems the Staffords are more than happy with their new abode, which was previously described as offering more than 15,000 square feet of living space that is modern and elegant, featuring enormous walls of glass that overlook the Los Angeles skyline.

The Staffords bought the megamansion through a trust managed by the same person who oversaw the trust used to buy the adjacent property.

The trio of sales marks the end of a very turbulent chapter in Matthew's real estate journey, bringing to a close his very lengthy struggle to find a buyer for the YOLO compound.

That property is understood to have been the first dwelling purchased by the quarterback and his spouse after they relocated to California, when Matthew was traded to the Rams by his former team, the Detroit Lions, in 2021.

Before heading to the West Coast, the athlete and his family lived in a sprawling waterfront mansion in Michigan, which they sold for $6 million the same year he was traded.

In the five years since then, the Staffords have become sporting royalty in the Golden State. The football pro helped to lead the Rams to Super Bowl victory in February 2022, when they claimed a triumphant win over the Cininnati Bengals.

While the team has failed to make it to the championship game since then, Matthew is widely seen as one of the best quarterbacks in the league, earning the prestigious title of NFL MVP at the end of the 2025 season.

Months after receiving that honor, Matthew signed a one-year contract extension with the L.A. team worth a reported $55 million, according to ESPN. The deal could rise to as much as $60 million "with incentives."
